Mark Bassett

ABOUT

Mark is a health services manager who consults, internationally, on the development of health systems from policy development and legislation to implementation and evaluation. Over the past thirty years he has worked for the National Health Service (NHS) (England), NHS Overseas, Department of Health (DH) (England), Bupa Group; and as a consultant for The World Bank Group, Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) International and the World Health Organization, in many areas of health systems development including health financing, public private partnership and hospitals corporatization. He has extensive international experience of working with Ministers, parliamentarians, senior officials, managers and business leaders.

Mark’s experience includes being Planning Advisor to the Sverdlovsk Regional health Board, Russia (1992-1994), Regional Principal, South Thames, DH England (1994-1996), iFHP Fellow in Health Insurance at The World Bank, Washington DC (2003-2005), Head of Public Policy, Bupa (UK 1998-2003, Europe and global 2005-2009), and Director of Public Policy, Bupa Group (2009-2010). Work experience beyond Europe includes: Russia, USA, Ghana, Saudi Arabia, IR Iran, India, China, Australia, Singapore and Costa Rica. Mark has an MA in Health Services Management from Manchester University and is an alumnus of the University of California, Berkeley Global Health Leadership Program.

Mark is married to Elena, a doctor, who specializes in urgent care. They have three children.
