Modernizing a Global Pharmaceutical Company’s DAM Metadata Strategy

THE CHALLENGE

An outdated, outgrown system

A $90 billion global pharmaceutical company needed a new metadata model for their digital asset management, or DAM, system that provided marketing materials across the globe. Their DAM system at the time provided robust functionality but lacked proper governance and required significant restructuring and updating. The company needed to optimize how key assets were classified and made searchable in the system, all while expanding the content available to users in order to drive adoption of the new operating model for asset development.

OUR SOLUTION

A seamless transition

Optimity’s Information Management team collaborated with representatives from the pharmaceutical company to assess and redesign the taxonomy and metadata model for the new DAM system. We performed user interviews, followed by deep analyses of user search data and search assets to provide recommendations for the new system’s metadata and navigation. In support of these changes, our team also provided change management and governance tools to facilitate seamless migration to the new model, reinforce new terms, and endorse continuous improvement of the system. The launch was a success.
